Todd's Teaching Philosophy:

  • Stress the basic fundementals
  • Grip/Posture/Alignment, or in other words Getting/Prepared/Accurately
  • Basic fundementals build a solid foundation
  • Develop a swing that fits each individual's body structure, strength, and flexibility
  • Todd's goal is to help each individual understand his or her game and become confident
  • Last but not least "Have Fun"

Todd's Club Fitting Philosophy:

Match the proper shaft to the individual's swing (flex, length, and weight).  Find the proper loft.  This is the most overlooked part in club fitting.  Loft is so essential in changing the flight of the ball.  We need more drivers built with 14-16 degrees of loft.  7 & 9 woods should replace long irons (3,4, and 5).  Also the design of the hybrids has been tremendous.  We need to make the game easier to get more participation.  The typical set of 1-3-5 in woods and 3-PW in irons is outdated.  New technology has given us an edge in finding the power set for each individual.  Loft should be our friend not our enemy.

Whitmoor Country Club Junior Golf Academy

The Whitmoor Junior golf program is a (7) Week program available to Whitmoor Country Club Members.  The program starts in the middle of June and ends the beginning of August each year.  The program meets every Thursday.  The ratio of students to teachers is 8 to 1.

The Academy is broken down into 6 divisions.  Elite 18-Holers, 18-Holers, 9-Holers, 6-Holers, 3-Holers and Pee Wee's.
All the participants must attend our rules and etiquette class and pass a test on the rules of golf.  The tests are geared toward thier playing level and age.

The Elite 18, 18 and 9 Holers are our most experienced juniors.  They have instruction one week then play in a tournament the following week.  50% of their program is instruction and 50% is playing in tournament golf.  Their ages vary between 11 - 18.

The 6 and 3 Holers are our intermediate juniors.  We focus on instruction with these two groups.  The first three weeks cover: Putting, Chipping, and the Full Swing.  Then they get to play in a point tournament.

The 6 Holers course consists of two holes 175 yards, two holes 125 yards, and two holes 75 yards.

The 3 Holers consist of 3 holes ranging between 30 and 60 yards.

The next week after the 6 Holers and 3 Holers point tournament we go over putting, chipping, and the full swing.  Then we end up with the point tournament.  The ages vary between 7 - 10 years.

The Pee Wee's are our beginners and their program is 6-weeks in duration consisting of instruction.  Putting and chipping are the basics for this group.  Two sessions on putting, two sessions on chipping, one on the full swing, then ending up with a mini golf touranement on the last day with prizes given away to all the junior.  The ages vary between 4 - 6 years.
Basic fundamentals are covered with all of our Juniors, from the 18 Holers to the Pee Wee's.  At the end of the Junior Academy we award the top 3 boys & girls from each division.  Pee Wee's do not play.  The points are added up from each tournament.  We use the same point system as the Gateway P.G.A. Section has adopted.

We believe what makes our program so sucessful is the commitment from everybody.  The parents, ground crew, concession employees, and golf professionals.  We cannot thank the parents enough for their continued support and involvment.  They are unbelievable in the help they provide us with from being a scorer for the tournaments, providing water to the juniors, and shuttling players between holes.  The actual tournament days are treated like real tournaments.  Tee times, rules sheets, pin sheets, and announcements on the first tee.  This make tha kids feel very important and helps them prepare for tournaments outside the club.

Todd Meyer Bio

Todd is native of St. Louis and is a 1987 graduate of Lindbergh High School.  To this day Todd continues to hold 2 state records for most matches won in a season and lowest stroke average.  Upon graduation form Lindbergh, Todd attended Florida Community College in Jacksonville with a full scholorship in golf.  In 1995, Todd qualified for the NGA Hooters Tour and played professionally for two seasons.  Todd still kept teaching his students during his time as a tour professional.  Todd has worked at all types of facilities in the golf industry since 1990 from a public course, private facility to driving ranges.  He has a well rounded personality that will fit into any golf environment.

As a junior growing up in St. Louis, Todd had the opportunity to work and golf with some of the greatest players and teachers in the Gateway P.G.A. Section.  Todd also played in the Gateway Junior P.G.A. when Jill Bertram was the Junior Golf Coordinator.  Jim Cochran, Terry Houser, Phil Hewitt, Tom DeGrand, and Charlie Stock all P.G.A. members were all influential role models and each of them haved helped him with a different part of the game.  Jim Cochran is a P.G.A. Life Member and also has played on the Senior Tour.  He taught Todd how the game should be played and how to be prepared for competitive golf.  Terry Houser, 3-Time winner of the Gateway P.G.A. Teacher of the Year award was always preaching to him about the swing and what had to happen for the swing to work.  Phil Hewitt, Two-Time Gateway P.G.A. Player of the Year taught him the importance of the short game and his secrets on and around the greens.  Tom DeGrand owner and operator of Pro-Am Driving Range in South County has always stressed the importance of practice and hard work to Todd.  And last but not least, Charlie Stock, Two-Time Northern Ohio P.G.A. Senior Player of the Year and Todd's true mentor taught him how to teach the game.  To this day Todd uses his drill and theories when he teaches.  Todd has quoted "I could never repay these gentlemen for the knowledge they have given me over the years.  Each one of these gentlemen planted a seed in me years ago and each seed has grown into a tree.  And each tree is the basics of my teaching and playing philosophies.  I feel obligated to pass along what I have learned over the years to everybody that I teach.  I take deep pride teaching golf.  I also believe that the juniors of today could follow the same path that I did as a teacher and could touch generation after generation.  I believe hard work pays off and I always use the expression "There is nothing worse than wasted talent.  I have given my heart and soul the last seventeen years and the hard work has paid off with some awards that I am honored for receiving."

We are pleased Todd decided to join the staff at Whitmoor Country Club in 2000 as our Director of Instruction.  During his tenure here at Whitmoor, Todd has continued his outstanding career by winning the 2002 Assistants' Championship held at Tapawingo Golf Course, and becoming elected as a P.G.A. member in 2003.  He has also been honored with numerous awards as a Teacher.
